The official, unofficial blog of Avalanche Software employees. Avalanche is a game development studio. We created the Tak and the Power of Juju property for Nickelodeon and we were recently acquired by Disney. We are currently creating new properties and developing games based on Disney Feature Animation films. This blog is a vehicle to help keep us creatively fresh and help us sharpen our skills... but mostly for fun.

First comment on the new blog. Yay!
So many artists, so few pictures to look at. I'll be lurking....
I just gotta say *sniff* that I'm glad to be a part of this. *sniff*
So who's going to grace us with the first real post?
What's suppsed to be posted up here anyway? Art that we've already posted on our own blogs? Although that seems redundant, I can't imagine wanting to do extra artwork just to post here.
Also, Joe, Kevin, Ryan and I have been doing these mini-art challenges every couple of weeks. We could post the topics up here if people are interested in joining in.
I agree with you, Sam. We should do the mini-art challenges. That would be a good thing. I say we start that way and see how things go from there. If you all want to do that, I say someone give us a topic. We'll take a couple of weeks on it... maybe something Halloweenish since it's almost October. Thoughts?
Wait, are you talking about doing an official Avalanche mini-art challenge every couple of weeks?
That's not what I was suggesting, although that would be fine. What I was saying is that a group of us have already been doing mini-challenges. We'll just keep doing them like we have been, but if other people are interested we can post up the topics when we decide on them. I like the idea of inviting other people to join in, but changing the unofficial, non-deadline format would be less motivating (at least for me). And motivation to draw outside of work time is the whole reason for these mini-challenges.
So what about it, should I post up the topics as we do them?
I don't mean an official Avalanche thing. I know you guys have been doing the mini challenges for a while now... when I said "a couple weeks," I meant whatever system you guys have been using. I thought you were doing something new every couple of weeks, but it looks like it's longer between topics than I guessed. I just think it would be cool to do whatever you guys are doing... you know - it would be cool for me to force my way into what you've already established. That's all I'm saying.
I don't want to change anything you're doing... except that instead of only posting the stuff on your own blog, you could all post them here too... so we can see them all in one place. If you're up for that, give us a topic. Otherwise, we'll come up with something else. At least we have these links here! Hooray!
I think we often have a quick turnover between topics, probably close to a couple of weeks. I just want to avoid deadlines because we want the motivation to draw be intrinsic instead of extrinsic. With a deadline, people wait until the last possible minute to do something.
By the way, our current topic is "Lost" (I've never seen the show, but it's been fun anyway). Some are doing caricatures, but I'm sure anything would be fine. We'll probably do a halloween topic closer to the holiday.
Cool... thanks, Sam.
